Shalom Dear Friends,
In this newsletter, we want to continue our topic in Isaiah 55. In this passage, we see how the Word of God functions in our daily life. In verse 10, we read: "for as the rain comes down, and snow from heaven and do not return there, but water the earth and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater. So shall My Word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish what I will please and it shall prosper in the things for which I sent it." This portion of scripture reveals how the Word of God works in our life in three different stages.
We need to realize that God’s thoughts and ways are totally different than our ways. Simply put, we need to completely rely on God’s Word and refrain from using our own mind and logic. Moreover, we see how God’s Word functions through the analogy of rain and snow.
First, water comes upon the earth and makes things grow. The earth is like our heart and the rain is like the Word. God rains in our heart His Word just as water rains the earth. Secondly, the rain accomplishes it purpose by causing the seed to grow. The seed is the fruit in our life caused by the Word of God. The seed will eventually become bread with which you can feed the hungry. It is quite clear that God’s Word is alive and powerful. It will produce fruit. Interestingly enough, God illustrates the working of His Word through nature. Another component essential to the production of fruit is faith. The Bible says in Hebrews 4:2 that "indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them but the Word which they heard did not profit them; not being mixed with faith in those who heard it." It is obvious that we need faith in the Word of God in order to see its fruit.
The three stages of God’s growth in our lives is found in verse ten. As the Word falls into your heart, the fruit being developed by God will begin to appear. We must understand that when God sends His Word into our heart, He expects fruit pertaining to what He has spoken. For example, if God says in His Word, "you shall prosper anywhere you go", you may look at the promise and may think that it is almost impossible to obtain. If you will allow God to develop your faith and realize the process, then that promise will become fruitful in your life after it has grown in your heart. Some people question the promises of God because they have no fruit in this area and are only in the budding stage of a promise. They must realize that the Word of God shall not return void, but take residence in their hearts by giving birth to a bud, then to a seed, and finally producing bread (fruit).
It is important to highlight that God’s Word will not return void but will accomplish what He pleases and will prosper in the things that He had sent it. If we will put our trust upon the Word of God, it will surely accomplish what God has for us in our life. However, this process can only be activated when we put His Word into our life.
Shalom
